Capacity Building for Conservation Science in India
The Living Desert’s Director of Conservation, Dr. James Danoff-Burg, was awarded a six-week Fulbright Specialist Program from the U.S. State Department to travel to India and work with the Applied Environmental Research Foundation (AERF) to help improve conservation capacity among practitioners to conserve biodiversity in an imperiled landscape. Danoff-Burg was based on the western edge of India called the Western Ghats, among the ten hottest Biodiversity Hotspots globally.
The heart of this project was to enhance conservation training for the next generation of Indian conservation leaders. While in India, Danoff-Burg worked to understand the current situation and landscape of conservation education and training, and subsequently build curriculum and training programs for the next generation of India’s conservation leaders.
