To inspire the STEAM professionals of tomorrow, The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens will be hosting a Women in STEAM Career Day at the Park on February 10 from 10:00am-1:00pm. Students in grades K-12 of all genders are invited to learn about careers in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) from professional women in the field.
This event is free with membership or paid park admission. To broaden access to more children on February 10, The Living Desert will be offering a discounted child (ages 3-17) ticket price of $14.95. Adult tickets will be regular price. Visit LivingDesert.org/STEAMCareerDay to learn more and purchase discounted child tickets for February 10.
"I am thrilled to champion Women in STEAM Career Day,” said Vice President of Learning & Impact Anna Young, Ph.D. “Just like the diverse ecosystems we strive to protect, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment in STEAM fields is crucial for innovation and progress. Representation matters deeply, and by showcasing the achievements and expertise of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, we not only inspire the next generation of professionals but also underscore the importance of diverse voices in shaping the future of scientific exploration and conservation efforts."
Participants in the event include women in conservation, engineering, animal care, information technology, health care, conservation education, and more. Returning this year is the Ninety-Nines, an all-female organization of pilots.
Guests can visit each of the booths to complete their STEAM Career Day “passports,” and participate in hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Also available for purchase during the event is a special, STEAM-based Zoo to Go Kit, filled with fun activities to help create a bird-friendly space at home.
The Living Desert is open daily from 8:00am-5:00pm, with last admission at 4:00pm. For more information and advance tickets, visit LivingDesert.org/STEAMCareerDay.
