  • Birds of a Feather - (K-1st Grade)

In Birds of a Feather, your K-1st grade campers will learn to appreciate the beauty and functionality of a bird's colorful feathers. With the use of microscopes and an up-close experience with The Living Desert's roadrunners, campers will take a closer look at feathers in action.

We will also explore flight with a bird presentation in our Wildlife Amphitheater. Afterwards, campers will participate in a hands-on STEM challenge to create their own flying machines! Learning about the different uses of feathers will connect campers with nature and the many ways in which feathers have influenced some of our own creations.

  • Come Fly With Me - (2nd-3rd Grade)

Our 2-3 camp is currently sold out. Don't miss out— join our waitlist today!

In Come Fly With Me, your 2nd-3rd grade campers will learn how the environment influences bird behavior and adaptations. With nature journals and binoculars, campers will spend time outdoors observing and identifying local birds and will participate in an egg hunt to identify the eggs of different bird species. In a hands-on STEM activity, campers construct a bird nest from natural materials and test it to see if it holds up against wind, rain, and predators.

We will also explore the phenomenon of migration and learn how to make our communities more migratory-bird friendly. Campers will then build bird baths to take home to invite birds to visit on their migrations and meet one of The Living Desert's veterinary technicians to learn about the biological adaptations that make migration possible.
